William "Billy" L. Beattie was a Scottish professional rugby league footballer of the 1910s, playing at club level for Wakefield Trinity (captain) (Heritage #192), he was invited to join the 1914 Great Britain Lions tour of Australia and New Zealand, but declined due to business reasons, he served as a commissioned officer with the 10th Border Regiment,〔Tony Collins (18 Apr 2006).
